When reading The Hunger Games the number 12 catches my eye, its significance in the novel should not to be left unnoticed,

 

• It is at age 12 that a child's name is entered to be drawn at the ‘Public Reaping’.

• There are 12 Districts that participate in The Hunger Games.

       (District 13 is believed to be none existent)

• Katniss the protagonist is from District 12.

• 12 Male tributes for every Hunger Games.

• 12 Female tributes for every Hunger Games.

• The arena in the 75 Hunger games is divided into 12 sections.

• After the second film Catching Fire,every 12 months another film was released.

 

 

But did you know that the number 12 is also significant in Christianity?

 

 

• The number 12 is mentioned 189 times in the Christian bible.

• In first century Christianity, there were 12 tribes of Israel.

• Jesus Christ had 12 disciples, when Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, St Matthias replaced him to keep the number of disciples at 12.(Mathew 10:1-5)

• Jesus’ first appearance in the Temple to preach was at 12.(Luke 2:42)

• Did you know there is 12 gates to the City of Heaven?(Revelation 21:12)

• The tree of life in Heaven bears 12 different fruits.(Revelation 22:2)

• The 12 days of Christmas actually represent the 12 days after Jesus’ birth when God reveals to the 3 wise Kings (Magi) Jesus Christ as a human. (Epiphany)(Mathew 2:1-2)

• There are 12 points in the doctrine of the Apostles Creed.
